The Northern Territory Government has a plan to gamble the Territory's future on a gas and petrochemical hub at Middle Arm, and the Federal Government is backing them up with your taxpayer dollars.

There is an alternative.

ECNT’s Recharging the Territory report shows how a redeployment of the Federal Government's $1.5b gas and petrochemicals subsidy for Middle Arm, we could achieve meaningful change for Territorians.

The report demonstrates that with the same amount of money that the Government wants to use to subsidize toxic heavy industries, we could instead deliver high-quality local jobs, tackle the cost-of-living crisis, provides energy upgrades for every low-income and public housing dwelling, and set the Territory up to be a leader in the sustainable industries of the future.

Will you be the voice of Recharging the Territory in the Federal Parliament?
 
I am writing to urge you to stand with Territorians and work with your Federal colleagues to redeploy the $1.5b subsidy for the Middle Arm gas hub and deliver real change for Territorians.   
 
With the right kind of investment, the Federal Government could help deliver high-quality, future-ready jobs for Territorians, directly tackle the NT’s cost-of-living crisis and provide the foundation for a strong and diverse Territory economy. 
 
As a Territorian, I am asking for these changes so that the NT can move towards a sustainable, prosperous future.
 
The ECNT's <a href="http://www.ecnt.org.au/recharging">Recharging the Territory</a> report provides a roadmap for how the Territory can achieve this. Strategic deployment of the $1.5b would enable the Territory to join the renewables revolution happening across the country, tackle climate change, and change the lives of Territorians by investing in sustainable jobs and training, and funding energy upgrades for low income and public housing dwellings.  
 
Investing $1.5 billion into a Recharging the Territory package would:

<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Establish a four campus Northern Australia Renewable Energy Training Centre of Excellence;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Subsidise TAFE training for local students;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Provide solar, insultation and air conditioning upgrades for every single public housing dwelling;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Fund climate safe upgrades for every low income households in the Northern Territory;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Deploy solar on twice as many household rooftops;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Construct a Darwin Big Battery and fix systemic grid stability issues;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Expand the deployment of microgrids throughout the NT;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Build hundreds of new homes and household expansions in remote areas;</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; vertical-align: middle;">Open up East Arm and the Port of Darwin for a future industries precinct.</li>
